Work by the VPB company on developing a simulation model for Srednje posavlje has lasted over 10 years. In fact, the latest version (version 4) has just been completed.
Srednje posavlje hydraulic model
The drawing up of the EU co-financed study documentation – for Hrvatske vode (Croatian Waters) as the end-user – is currently underway to improve the flood protection system in Srednje posavlje. The project covers the central protected region of the Republic of Croatia along the Sava River – an area of 800 square kilometres. The key goal in drawing up the study documentation is completing and adapting the existing flood protection system with actual hydrological data and design standards. For the purpose of drawing up this documentation, the surface flow mathematical model was updated to fit the requirements of analysing the current state of the flood protection system in Srednje posavlje and the analysis of conceptual variant solutions was conducted. The devised simulation model covers the region of the Sava River from Jesenice to Mačkovec, the Kupa River from J. Kiselica to the confluence of the Sava, the Una River from Hrvatska Kostajnica to the confluence of the Sava, including the associated channels and retention systems. The model has been devised in the DHI Mike Flood application.
The reason for improving the model was the available LiDAR surveying method. It is the result of cooperation between the Sava Commission and the US Engineering Corps, for the purpose of improving the earlier developed prognostic model.
