VPB has successfully provided consultancy services throughout the entire process of preparing the project for the construction of the Donje Polje – Jadrtovac public irrigation system. The project’s preparatory phase dates back to July 2013 when the conceptual design for irrigating this region was supplemented and optimised. An interdisciplinary team of experts from the fields of hydroengineering, agronomy, hydrogeology, environmental science, civil engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, devised a unique project for irrigating woody plants in the Republic of Croatia on utilized karst areas. This project was also used for scientific and research purposes at the Faculty of Agronomy in Zagreb and the Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation.
Based on continuous measurements of available quantities and the quality of water carried out at the temporary salty source Ribnik, the decision was made to select a concept for drawing water outside of the vegetation period and store it in artificially formed small storage reservoirs, with the total volume of 300,000 m3. Also, the works will cover the construction of pumping stations alongside small storage reservoirs and distributive pressure pipelines equipped with hydrant connections for irrigating grapevines and olive orchards.
