After the catastrophic floods in May 2014 in parts of eastern Posavina, Hrvatske vode initiated the modernisation of a section of Sava river dikes from Račinovci to Nova Gradiška covering over 236 km. The aim of the project was to ensure protection against the flooding of potential areas covering approx. 220,000 ha, with additional reinforcement of the river dikes foundation ground against hydraulic failure and more effective implementation of flood protection measures, construction of a raised service path above the level of the floodplain terrain, which would enable dispatching materials and personnel when implementing interventive flood protection measures. The total value of the project is estimated at around HRK 370 million, out of which EU grants for regional development amount to HRK 315 million.
In addition to VPB actively participating in drafting detailed project documentation for construction, the company also prepared study documentation and an application for successfully registering the project to obtain grants from EU funds.
