The supply melioration channel enables irrigation across the total of 14,722 meters from the Sava River to the existing Konjsko channel tributary. The route of the melioration channel overlaps with the route of the multi-purpose Danube-Sava channel, i.e., the supply melioration channel is the 1st phase in constructing the multi-purpose Danube-Sava channel. Supplying water to the Biđ-Bosutsko field area from the Sava River incorporates plans for the construction of a barrage and pumping station. After constructing the supply melioration channel, it will be possible to establish an irrigation system in the affected area, while drawing water directly from the supply melioration channel or from connecting waterways and channels in which the water level will rise and stabilise under the effect of slowing down water. Currently, the project documentation for public irrigation systems covering the total area of 4,756 ha in the Biđ-Bosutsko field is in the late preparatory stage.
The value of the entire investment is approx. HRK 490 million.
The national project for irrigating and management of agricultural land and waters was adopted in 2005. A year later, funds for irrigation were ensured for the first time, and in 2007 the preparation of the project documentation for constructing the supply melioration channel began. Works on the first section of the supply melioration channel began in 2009. VPB participated during the entire duration of this significant national project – from the initial preliminary phase, project and study documentation, to the geodetic and project supervision in the construction phase.
All the effort invested in this project by VPB’s experts was crowned with the KOLOS award from the Chamber of Civil Engineers, for exceptional achievement in the profession in the category of hydroengineering for the year 2017.
